Hi, this is Colin Eves, your Natural Personal Trainer in Adelaide.
One of the biggest questions I always get asked is: What is the best exercise to lose belly fat?
Well, the answer lies in high intensity workouts and my personal recommendation here is sprint training.
And by the way, doing lots of abdominal workouts will not remove belly fat; it’s impossible to what we call ‘spot reduce’.
Also, doing hours upon hours of boring cardio is not the answer either. Besides, it’s way too inefficient and it takes far too long.Kambo Practitioner
Interval training, particularly sprint training, will burn heaps more fat calories long after the workout has taken place.
Not just any sort of sprint training either, but a method called Tabata Intervals founded by Dr. Izumi Tabata, who, after studying the world’s best training protocols and testing hundreds of athletes,
founded this workout that is not only the most effective for burning body fat, but is also the best to improve cardiovascular fitness; far better than traditional cardio workouts. Interesting, eh?
This is what you do in a Tabata Sprint Workout:
First, you jog for 4 minutes.
Then you do 8 sets of a 20 second sprint followed by a 10 second jog, to give you another four minutes.
And then you finish off the workout with a jog for the final four minutes.
So that’s just 12 minutes in total.
Hardly any time at all, but if you do that 3 times a week with a day’s break in between, as well as look after your nutrition,
you will get amazing results. That fat will just melt away from your middle, believe me.
Now, just a word of warning, this workout is tough. So if you’re just starting out, I recommend doing those eight sprint sets with a 10 second sprint (with whatever maximum effort sprinting is for you),
followed by 20 seconds of jogging.
And then when you improve from here, you can go on to an intermediate plan which is 15 second sprints followed by a 15 second jog.
And then when you feel really up to it, give the full Tabata a go!
